Why make jewelry inspired by dance?

Van Cleef & Arpels has always sought to transcribe feminine beauty through its creations. Dance is a universe where women are free to express themselves. The movements they perform are graceful and are compared, by some artists, to living poetry.

In 1920's, Louis Arpels, goes regularly to see his nephew Claude at the Paris Opera. He particularly liked this universe and was inspired by it for his first creations, which would become a signature of the Maison Van Cleef & Arpels. The first ballerina jewels were created in New York a few years later and remain unconditional treasures of the historical heritage of the House of Luxury.

This inspiration is materialized by a strong patronage of this sector which is still perpetuated by the brand today. Since 2012, it has been supporting the L.A. team. Dance Project initiated by the Frenchman Benjamin Millepied. Since 2015, the Maison has set up the annual award entitled "FEDORA - VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet”. The latter rewards new ballet productions that it considers promising.
